Honiara, 30th March 2021: A joint one day consultation meeting co-hosted by the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources and World Fish for people of Malaita Outer Islands (MOI) has concluded with all parties agreeing to work together to develop a management plan for sea cucumber (beche-de-mere fishery) for Lord Howe group of islands.
Honiara, 10 March 2021: Reports of alleged illegal harvesting of sea cucumbers (bech-de-mer) in some coastal communities has reached the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources. The reports described this rampant activity of some people who continue harvesting sea cucumbers despite the current ban.
