Provincial Fisheries officers meet in Honiara

Honiara, 25 Nov 2020: Provincial Fisheries Officers representing the nine provinces are in Honiara for their annual conference this week.

The Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources Freshwater Fish Hatchery development project at Aruligo, North West Guadalcanal Constituency is going full steam ahead with the ministry again calling for eligible contractors to submit their bid.

Honiara, 28 May 2020: Eleven years old Samuel Jason Voda Marsh, a fifth grader at Honiara International School (Woodford) yesterday joined officer from the Ministries of Environment and Fisheries to tag and release back into the wild, a juvenile Green Marine Turtle (Species name - Chelonia mydas).

Honiara, 28 May 2020: Work is progressing well at the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources freshwater fish hatchery project at Aruligo, North West Guadalcanal despite the Covid 19 State of Emergency.

Representatives from the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources (MFMR), the SIG ICT Services, Customs, Health, Soltuna, National Fisheries Development (NFD) and iTUNA Intel conducted a 3-day workshop at Munda from 11-13 March to advance proposals to establish a wholly integrated digital catch documentation and traceability scheme for the Noro Fishing Port which will be known as ePort.

Solomon Islands Government (SIG) through the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources (MFMR) is taking the lead at the PNA (Parties to the Nauru Agreement) level in its fight against Illegal, Unreported, Unregulated (IUU), especially monitoring on Long Line (LL) and Purse Seine (PS) fishing vessels.

OFCF committed to Sea Cucumber project in SI

Solomons expecting hike in tuna revenue

Revenue collected through licenses is set to hit an all time high this fishing season as more fishing days are being sold to the major fishing nations. The licensing section in the Ministry of Fisheries has experienced an increase in the number of requests from bilateral partners asking for more fishing days because of high yield expected this fishing season.
