A high level Solomon Islands Fisheries officials led by the Minister of Fisheries, Hon Nestor Giro this morning began its first round of bilateral negotiations with the Korea Overseas Fisheries Association (KOFA) concerning purse seine fishing within the fishery limits of Solomon Islands.

The Minister of Fisheries, Hon Nestor Giro and a delegation including Senior Officials of the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources (MFMR), the High Commissioners of Australia and New Zealand and their officials, and the Supervising Premier and representatives of Malaita Provincial Government made a day visit to the Bina Harbor Tuna Processing Plant (BHTPP) Project site last week.

The Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources (MFMR) wishes to advice all interested Beche-de-mer (BDM) operators, exporters, fishermen, fisherwomen and the general public throughout Solomon Islands that the BDM Fishery ban will be revoked and effective on 1st September 2021 to 1st September 2022.

The Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources has conducted a one day refresher workshop for its staff who missed similar training last year and those who joined the ministry recently.

Bina Fish Processing Plant Project remains a top government priority said the Minister of Fisheries and Marine Resources Hon Nestor Giro.

Staff of the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resource last week participated in the Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA) organised regional International Fisheries Negotiations Training.

More than 20 staff of the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources and Ministry of Women, Youth, Children and Family Affairs have undertaken training to support the Ministry’s ongoing efforts to standardise gender, social inclusion and human rights in its policies and service delivery.

Bina Land Trustees visit Noro

Last week the Bina Harbor Tuna Processing Plant Project land trustees had a three days study visit to SolTuna at Noro, Western Province. The trip was arranged by the Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources on the invitation of SolTuna.

Hon 12 Aug 2021: Fisheries Minister Hon. Nestor Giro last Friday received keys to a newly constructed fisheries building at Kirakira, Makira Ulawa Province.

The Ministry of Fisheries and Marine Resources has opened a new chapter in its effort to modernise its processing of data with the formal launching of Noro-e port programme which no longer require use of paper to record and store data.
