The Solomon Islands National Observers programme, referred to as SBOB in the regional coding system for national Observers programme, is in charge of collecting independent scientific, biological and compliance data on-board local, bilateral, regional, sub-regional and multilateral licensed fishing vessels. The trips on-board the vessels are administered by the SBOB, Parties to the Nauru Agreement (PNA) and US Treaty administered by Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA).

The National Observer programme also caters for national fleets that only operate within our territorial waters, the MGA and the EEZ. In terms of the coverage, there is 100% observer coverage in the Purse seine fishery and a minimum of 5% observer coverage in the longline fishery this is a measure that is recognised by the Western Central Pacific Fisheries Commission (WCPFC).
